djchuang.com: What would Tim Keller say?

  • Cory Miller · 3 years ago
I believe it's this audio file where he talks about "defeator beliefs" in "Preaching to Believers and Unbelievers" ...

Thought-provoking sermon, er lecture. Great summary and analysis of the 6 defeater beliefs. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, guys. That's exactly what I needed.

Ok, I've just listened to the lecture again. This is great material I can use in a one-on-one conversation, but it's really aimed at pastors. My New Age friends will listen to a CD on the road and I want something aimed directly at the unbeliever.

About two months ago, I saw a Keller series advertised in a secular financial publication online. My guess is that's what I need, but I can't find it now. If no one can help, I'll try emailing the church, but getting a response is probably a long-shot. Thanks, again.

"Tim Keller, senior pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, addresses six different objections to Christianity. All six talks were given at the Harvard Club of New York City."

These are aimed at the secular market. I had to buy them but they are avilable here:

Roger, I think this is exactly what I was looking for. Have you shared it with an unbeliever? If so, what was the reaction?

There is also a series of 4 lectures that he gave on seperate defeaters that you can find on his redeemer.com website. They don't come up if you search by series. He did the lectures for his Bible study leaders and the material is amazing. It's so great how he shows the gospel to be the solution for each objection.

Go here and search for "defeaters" (without the quotes): http://www.redeemer3.com/store/index.cfm?fuseac...

    The specific defeaters are:
    1) Evil and Suffering
    2) Religious Pluralism
    3) Biblicla Criticism
    4) Evolution and Science

Another amazing thing is that the 4th lecture was given on September 10th, 2001 in NYC - the day before 9/11 and at the beginning of the lecture Keller gives a short kind of devotional on what it means for us to have God as our shield. It's incredible to listen to what he says knowing what is about to happen in his city the very next morning.

I wouldn't hesitate to give the Religious Pluralism to any New Ager.

PS The Redeemer.com sermon store isn't very well organized. You can find a massive wealth of mp3s if you browse in individual sermons that you can't find as a series such as the "Defeaters" series.

    Hope this helps

Tim is going to be doing a sermon series this fall that addresses topics that serve as obstacles for non-believers. The sermons series should most likely begin sometime in mid-October after he wraps up his sermons series on the Gospel of Mark. Stay tuned for this series as I would imagine is should be perfect for your friend. Additionally, you can always email sermons@redeemer.com if you would like help in identifying specific sermons that Tim has done in the past. Hope that's helpful.
